Friend,
Millionaires and billionaires have never had it so good. According to new data, the U.S. has added 50 new billionaires since the pandemic began.1 At the same time, tens of millions of U.S. families have lost jobs and wages, and struggled to keep a roof over their heads.
I’m fighting for big, bold ideas that lift up U.S. families, including $2,000 recurring monthly checks to everyone in the U.S., water as a human right, and more. And while Republicans like to claim that we can’t afford to invest in our families, our communities, and our future―you and I know we can, when the rich and corporations pay their fair share.
That’s why I’m happy to have co-introduced legislation in the House with Representative Barbara Lee to combat corporate greed and end outrageous CEO pay.
The Tax Excessive CEO Pay Act, also introduced in the Senate by Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Ed Markey, and Chris Van Hollen, would tax companies that pay their CEOs and other top executives at least 50 times more than they pay an average worker. And the corporate penalty rises as the CEO-worker pay gap rises. That means more money for public services and our communities!
Friend, this Wednesday we’re facing a critical fundraising deadline. It’s the first big fundraising deadline of the year where we’ll report on the money we’ve raised and spent, and how much cash on hand we have to strengthen our democracy and combat the attacks by Wall Street donors and super PACs attempting to tear us down.
Can you donate today to fight for bold progressive ideas that lift up millions of people while holding greedy CEOs and corporations accountable?
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your secure donation will go through immediately:
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the outrageous pay gap between CEOs and employees. It’s time to fight back.
As Senator Bernie Sanders said in introducing this critical legislation:
“The American people understand that today we are moving toward an oligarchic form of society where the very rich are doing phenomenally well, and working families are struggling in a way that we have not seen since the Great Depression. At a time of massive income and wealth inequality, the American people are demanding that large, profitable corporations pay their fair share of taxes and treat their employees with the dignity and respect they deserve. That is what this legislation will begin to do.”
We're working toward justice, but it takes all of us.
Donate today to show the strength of our movement and to fight for policies that invest in workers, families, and our communities.
Thank you for always being by my side as, together, we demand a future where we not only survive, but thrive.
Always serving you,
Rashida
