Dear John,

The job of civics and history educators is as important as ever as we look toward the cultural and political landscapes that we will face this fall. We hope you'll join us for our free, one-day professional development workshop inNashville on November 12th ([link removed]) where we will collaboratively explore the meaning of American citizenship and understand its many forms, including individual responsibility and civic engagement.

This will be a one-day symposium-style program, comprised of workshop-based sessions. It will rely on participant engagement and involvement. It is best suited for teachers and youth leaders who work with students on civics projects, High School Government, Civics, U.S. History, English Language Arts and Social Studies, and is appropriate for community impact clubs.

About MyImpact Challenge: MyImpact Challenge, a five-unit curriculum culminating in a community-impact project, teaches middle and high school students how aspects of society such as entrepreneurship, philanthropy, and the policy process can activate citizenship and have positive and substantial effects on communities. It has a flexible design that enables it to adapt to a range of classrooms. These include the semester-long service-learning courses that are offered in many high schools, and is also a natural fit for civic-minded youth programs.

Seminar Objectives:
* Introduce teachers and youth leaders to the newly enhanced MyImpact Challenge curriculum, fully preparing participants to be able to facilitate it in their own classes, clubs, and associations.
* Explore ways facilitators can guide students through an interactive digital curriculum that supports student voice and agency, guiding them toward developing their own projects, at their own pace, or with a teacher or youth leader’s support.

*At this time, the Bill of Rights Institute is planning to host in-person programming in the fall of 2020 but we plan to closely monitor the public health conditions and state and local guidelines related to the COVID-19 pandemic. We will do our part to keep our participants and communities safe and if travel or gathering is ill-advised at the time of the program, we will explore alternative programming, and host online opportunities for professional development.
Please contact our Events Team (mailto:[email protected]) if you have any questions.

We hope to see you in November!

Sincerely,
The Bill of Rights Institute Professional Development Team
