Washington, DC - OCA𑁋Asian Pacific American Advocates makes the following statements on Rob Bonta’s appointment to Attorney General of California:
“‘We are excited to see Rob Bonta’s appointment to be the Attorney General of California,’ said Linda Ng, OCA National President. ‘He will be the first Filipino-American, and third Asian American, to serve in this role. Bonta is a Filipino immigrant who came to California at age two. He grew up in California where he currently resides with his family, and served as a California Assemblymember until this appointment. With Bonta in this role, California will have one of the most diverse state governments in the country as well as an advocate of criminal justice reform and a champion of diverse communities in the state.’
OCA is excited to see the work that Bonta will do, namely advocating for just immigration processes, labor policies that protect workers and fair wages, and enforcing civil rights protections, especially amid the rise in anti-Asian violence and harassment we are seeing in the Bay Area and across the country.”
If you, your family members, someone you know, or community members have experienced xenophobia, discrimination, or harassment, please report the incident using our hate crime reporting tool at aapihatecrimes.org.
