FairVote senior fellow David Daley will lead a discussion on gerrymandering and what to expect when there are partisans drawing the lines.



Daley will speak with Professor Michael Latner, senior fellow at the Union of Concerned Scientists’ Center for Science and Democracy; Carlos Ochoa, communications director with More Equitable Democracy; and Carolyn Fiddler, communications director of the Daily Kos to talk about which state lines to watch, why independent commissions are one great solution to preventing partisan gerrymandering, and what policy solutions could make gerrymandering obsolete in the future.



Learn about the panelists: 



- Carolyn Fiddler is communications director for Daily Kos and is the nation’s foremost expert in state politics. She writes “This Week in Statehouse Action,” a newsletter that provides updates on state politics to thousands of reporters, political operatives and observers each week. A veteran of Virginia politics with almost two decades of experience in statehouse machinations, she deeply understands the inner workings of state legislative policymaking. 





- Michael Latner is Professor of Political Science at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and senior fellow at the Union of Concerned Scientists’ Center for Science and Democracy. His most recent book (with Alex Keena, Anthony McGann and Charles Anthony Smith) is Gerrymandering the States: Partisanship, Race and the Transformation of American Federalism, forthcoming from Cambridge University Press.



- Carlos Ochoa is the Communications Director for More Equitable Democracy. Carlos approaches his work through narrative, systems, and anthropological theories. Carlos uses these tools to help communicate the current crises of belonging in governance and the opportunities for communities of color to advocate for their own liberation. Carlos holds a Master’s Degree in Anthropology from the University of Arkansas and is a former archaeologist, sustainability expert, and stay-at-home dad.
