In keeping with presenting good news to our REC members, I’d like to share some items from the recent Downtown Friday night at the Republican Party tent. It was my first DTF and I worked with Frank Sosta and my best buddy John passing out REC and Republican Clubs’ information and a Liberty booklet to those who stopped by the table. There were folks at the event from out of town, and some who had just moved to Florida from ‘Up North’. We definitely wanted to speak with these folks, see if they were like-minded and if they would consider registering here as Republicans. We wanted to sell them on the Republican Party and specially to convert some Patriotic but disillusioned Democrats to support our platform and candidates instead of continuing to vote like 'Up North.' We did get one new registration. Several others were interested in volunteering, so we made sure they received some contact information to do so. One couple coming from New York to live here were utterly amazed at what we had to offer! No, it was not the fine dining, beautiful weather, the beach, golf courses, friendly folks, no state income tax, or all that we enjoy as Florida residents that they were speaking about. Instead, they were like kids on Christmas Day opening presents under the tree when they found out that we had: Shooting Ranges! Gun Shows! Gun Stores! Concealed Carry Classes! and that they could actually Exercise Their Right to Keep and Bear Arms! Chamber of Commerce – please take note! One apparently nervous lady was watching our tent from halfway across the street while periodically looking up the street as if being followed, then right back to the tent. She hurried across to the table, after a last look up the street and quickly asked “What do you have for Republican Party information? I’m in a hurry so what do you have?” I said hello and picked up the handouts on the table and with a quick explanation of each gave them to her along with a Liberty booklet. This exchange took about 30 seconds. She said thanks and was obviously antsy to leave so I had to ask, “why are you in a hurry?” I figured that the Klub Kar on the next street still had the meter running on her, or someone was chasing her, maybe Zombies, or whatever worrisome matter was pressing her for time. I just had to know. To my complete surprise, she said “I came here with a Democrat, got away and have to get back.” I was LMAO inside. Looking forward to participating with Frank and others in upcoming REC Downtown Friday events! With my ears wide open! RPOF CHAIRMAN JOE GRUTER'S MESSAGE Great Vaccination News! Governor DeSantis announced last week that beginning Monday, March 29, he is dropping the eligibility guidelines for COVID-19 vaccinations in Florida to all individuals age 40 and older. And beginning the following Monday, April 5, all individuals age 18 and older will be eligible to receive the vaccine. Floridians are encouraged to pre-register at www.myvaccine.fl.gov. Once pre-registered, they’ll be contacted when the vaccine is available in their area. Floridians can also call the vaccine pre-registration phone number for their county, listed here. Vaccines are also available at 150 CVS locations, 125 Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club locations, more than 70 Winn Dixie locations, soon-to-be over 600 Walgreens pharmacies, and every single one of the 730 Publix pharmacies across the state. We’ve too often struggled with a workforce gap, where some people who want jobs can’t find any they are qualified for while at the same time companies have unfilled vacancies because they cannot find people with the appropriate training and skills. Governor DeSantis fully understands this dynamic and is leading the way in closing that gap in Florida, giving workers more career opportunities, and giving companies the employees they need to thrive. The Governor announced last week the creation of the Get There Faster Initiative, a $75 million dollar investment toward two new initiatives to expand access to quality, in-demand Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses, postsecondary credentials and work-based learning programs. These initiatives will speed up training for students that result in valuable certifications that will drive their careers and Florida’s economic recovery. “The Get There Faster innovative workforce initiatives will accelerate Florida’s efforts to be the best state in the nation for workforce development by 2030,” Governor DeSantis said. “The $75 million in federal funds will provide high school and adult students access to the resources they need to expedite the completion of their degrees or certifications.” Commissioner of Education Richard Corcoran said: “We know that a postsecondary educated workforce is the backbone of a thriving economy. Right now, more than ever, we need to do everything we can to help Floridian's gain access to higher education and training.” Read more here: [link removed] And here: [link removed] You can read more about the Get There Faster Initiative here: [link removed] Florida Update Blue to Red? Yet another major company, JetBlue Airlines, is looking to flee high-tax, big-government, shutdown New York for the low taxes, small government, well-run free state of Florida — where Republican policies have placed government spending per person at half of New York. It’s not a done deal, and U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is begging them not to leave, but JetBlue officials confirmed they are looking at leaving Queens and considering Florida. When a company whose motto is “New York’s hometown airline” is looking at fleeing the Democrat-run state for the friendly Sunshine State, you know that Florida is doing it right. The study found that Floridians pay the lowest taxes per capita of any state in the nation, yet still provide respectable services. New York was 44th on the list and California was 49th. As part of a massive COVID-19 relief package, direct payments from the Internal Revenue Service are headed to the bank accounts and mailboxes of millions of Floridians—creating the potential for new stimulus payment scams. Anytime a government benefit or program rolls out, scammers will try to exploit the situation for their own benefit. “With many Americans set to receive direct payments from the federal government, we expect scammers will devise schemes to exploit the massive spending to trick recipients into parting with personal or financial information. Be smart. Seek out trusted sources of information about when your payment will be received and never respond to solicitations asking you to provide personal information or payment to receive a stimulus check,” Moody said. Floridians expecting stimulus payments should know: The IRS will never call a consumer directly, nor will the IRS send unsolicited emails, texts or social media messages; Recipients will not be required to make a purchase to receive a stimulus check; Offers advertising expedited delivery of the stimulus payment for a fee are suspicious and can be scams; and Solicitations asking receivers to click a link or provide sensitive information are probably scams. Some common signs of scams include: Unsolicited calls or emails; High-pressure tactics or too-good-to-be-true offers; Threats of loss if immediate action is not taken; and Requests for immediate payment by wire transfer, credit, prepaid debit or gift cards.
