MONDAY E'NEWS Guns Groups File Suit Against Wayne County This past Thursday, the Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners (MCRGO) along with Michigan Open Carry, Inc., Michigan Gun Owners, and three affected individuals filed suit against the Wayne County Clerk in the Third Judicial Circuit Court at Detroit. Wayne County gun owners are being forced to wait for an extremely long time, sometimes over a year, for an appointment to simply submit their application for a concealed pistol license. Other country residents have been able to schedule appointments for other business in a much shorter time frame. As of the filing date, the clerk's website will not allow any appointments to be made for CPL applications, while at the same time still conducting other business. All Michigan counties have experienced delays in processing concealed pistol license applications due to COVID-19. In recent months, most of these delays are due to a wait for fingerprinting appointments through the county sheriff. This can be resolved by applicants using a local police department or approved private vendor with Live Scan capabilities instead. The Wayne County Clerk is refusing to even accept CPL applications in a reasonable time. Your help with this lawsuit would be appreciated. MCRGO training document revisions have been completed for 2021. MCRGO, MOC, & MGO have filed suit against the Wayne Co. Clerk. Funding for the suit was appropriated by a special board meeting in early March 2021. MCRGO to solicit individual donations for funding assistance. MCRGO to resume its social media marketing campaign for the remaining six weeks following a decision by Facebook to lift a ban on political advertising in effect from 10.24.20 through 3.3.21. The legal video revision is on schedule for a 7.1.21 completion date. Chris Kettler & Audree Danielson are appointed as representatives to MUCC. The issue of voluntary instructor participation in NSSF's suicide prevention awareness campaign is referred to Education Committee for a recommendation back to the Board at the Board's June meeting. The Donations, Gifts, Sponsorships, & Advertising Policy is adopted. Salary increases are approved for the executive director and treasurer. Both positions are to remain as independent contractors with no other compensation or benefits. The Upper Peninsula Picnic is tentatively planned for 9.11.21 at Ishpeming. The Fall Firearms Festival is tentatively planned for 9.25.21 at Greenville. The executive director is to solicit bids through a formal RFP for instructor portal redevelopment in advance of the June Board meeting. Project to be scheduled for the second half of 2021. MCRGO and the MCRGO Foundation will jointly purchase the ammunition for Legally Armed in Detroit's August 2021 women's shooting event to be supplied at cost from Fenix Ammunition of Novi. MCRGO authorizes Representative Phil Green to meet with Lake Superior State University to discuss a future training partnership. Board directs Operations Committee to discuss and recommend compensation to volunteer attorneys for the Ask an Attorney feature. MCRGO supports HB 4066 (Knife preemption). MCRGO opposes HB 4312 (CPL waiver for animal control officers).
