John -- We have some very exciting news! 

We are proud to announce the first candidate on our 2022 slate, Selinda Guerrero!  

Selinda is running for the NM-01 seat recently opened up by Deb Haaland’s historic appointment as Interior Secretary. 

We are so proud to make this announcement before Women’s History Month closes out and we know you will be as excited about Selinda as we are once you get to know this amazing truth teller. 

Selinda is an Afro-Chicano, Indigenous, Queer Black feminist, and a lifelong community organizer. A single mother of six, Selinda has been impacted by issues that often go undiscussed; state violence, housing insecurity, access to education, and Trans, Black, and Indigenous liberation. 

In her own words: 

All my life, I have been the working poor and these systems and structures that are meant to uplift us, haven’t been reaching us, the people. This is why I have been an organizer for over 20 years.

Situated at the intersections of the issues that impact so many in NM-01, Selinda believes -- like we do -- that it’s past time to build power for the working poor. To do that, we must elect real, working people to Congress.

This special election, scheduled for June 1, 2021, could bring an early win for progressives to this critical midterm cycle. 

The first candidate Brand New Congress ever endorsed was Cori Bush in 2017, and in 2020 Cori became the first Black Lives Matter activist elected to Congress. Help us elect Selinda as the second BLM activist to join Congress and speak up for Black lives.
