Despite strong objections from lawmakers ([link removed]) , Interior Secretary David Bernhardt signed a secretarial order ([link removed]) yesterday to extend William Perry Pendley's tenure as the acting head of the BLM for an additional four months.
Pendley is known for suggesting ([link removed]) the U.S. should "sell all public lands east of the Mississippi River" during his first stint at the Interior Department during the Reagan administration. These extremist views ([link removed]) make him an awkward and potentially dangerous choice to lead the federal agency charged with managing millions of acres of our nation's public lands, not to mention his 17-page recusal list ([link removed]) detailing his ties with the extractive industries that he is now charged with overseeing.

Quote of the day
William Perry Pendley's epic 17-page list of recusals is a road map showing that he's spent his career working to strip land and wildlife protections at the behest of drilling and mining companies and trade groups. It’s remarkable that such a conflict-ridden appointee with a shameful track record would be in this position in the first place, let alone get an extension."
