People For Member, Passing D.C. statehood in both houses of Congress should be a priority for all of us who care about equality and opportunity. D.C. has been denied full representation in our government since the District was established more than 200 years ago. Since the reintroduction of the D.C. statehood bill last week, some members of Congress are already expressing their fervent opposition to making D.C. our 51st state, using nonsensical arguments to make their case. We need to make sure Congress is inundated with support for D.C. statehood from people across the nation if we’re going to have even a chance at getting it passed. Sign the petition TODAY to tell Congress to pass D.C. statehood! >> From depriving D.C. residents of $755 million in coronavirus relief funds to preventing the D.C. government from calling in their own national guard when the U.S. Capitol was under attack, the events of this past year alone have made it clear that the District’s second-class status is putting D.C. residents in danger. We can’t wait any longer: D.C. needs to be a state now. More than 50 percent of our capital city’s 700,000 residents are people of color, the majority of whom are Black Americans, making their lack of equal representation in the federal government one of the greatest racial injustices of our time. Help us raise awareness about this critical racial justice issue and support an end to this racially biased exclusion! Urge Congress to take up and pass D.C. statehood immediately! >> The residents of our nation’s capital city deserve better, and we’re going to work hard to make statehood happen. Racial inequity is a problem for all of us, and D.C. statehood is one important step towards fixing it. Thank you for fighting with us! In solidarity, Sarah, Digital Campaigns Associate
