Here's What I've Been Reading and Thinking About This Week
Â
Covid Restrictions in Mexico
This week was an exercise in the absurd. I had to get a Covid test to go
get an x-ray to confirm that the scarring in my lungs from having Covid
had improved.
Read that again.
I asked, "But I had Covid just a few months ago and this x-ray is part
of my aftercare. Your own test said that I still have antibodies against
the virus. Why do I have to get the test?"
Because that was "the rule" for getting an x-ray, was the unsatisfactory
answer.
So, I had to go be nasally raped even though there's basically no chance
whatsoever I could have Covid right now to go finish my Covid aftercare.
Anyway, that silliness aside, I'm happy to say that I've been released
from the care of the pulmonologist, the scarring in my lungs has greatly
improved, and I'm no longer taking any type of medication for asthma. My
cough is finally gone after nearly 4 months. I feel good, I'm able to
exercise to almost the same level as before I was sick, and finally, I
feel like I've recovered.
I feel so fortunate that I was able to afford the care of a specialist
because my lungs were in terrible shape after my bout with the virus,
which I wrote about here
. If you have
Covid but it's a case mild enough to stay away from the hospital, here
is what I learned about managing the symptoms at home
.
Someone asked how the pandemic was handled in Mexico. I can only speak
for the part where I am, which is in Northern Baja.
Nearly everything remained open, but masks, hand sanitizer, and
temperature-taking were mandated at all businesses. Bars were closed
unless they served "hot food" which resulted in a few bars getting
microwaves to heat up tortilla chips to serve with the salsa.
There were more restrictions in place on weekends to deter tourists, but
the border, even though they say it is closed, is open for visitors.
So - there were rules, but they did not totally shut down their economy
and lock people in their homes. The loss of tourism was a blow, however,
I believe that the economy here was not as badly damaged as the economy
in many parts of the United States. There isn't much in the way of a
social safety net here (welfare) so I think that played a big part in
keeping people working.
I'm not sharing this to say Mexico is better or worse than the US - I'm
just sharing my experience here.
The photos above: Thor prompting me that it's time for a walk, a
"traffic jam" rural-Mexico style, and a cat that joined me for dinner at
a little restaurant.

Stuff I read this week
A couple of things I read or watched this week really made an
impression.
If you're not following Glenn Greenwald on Substack, I highly recommend
it. He's one of the few true journalists still out there. I've found his
coverage of the Cuomo scandal really important, since I don't feel the
mainstream is covering it as they should be. This article was
particularly hard-hitting
.
I'm not sure if you saw President Biden's first press conference but it
was absolutely catastrophic. Tucker Carlson showed some lowlights in
this video . I told my
friend that Saturday Night Live didn't need to do any skits mocking
Biden, as the actual press conference was enough like a skit. And later
it was revealed that Biden had cue cards
with photos on them.
I'm not writing about this to mock the President. To be perfectly
honest, it seems like elder abuse to put someone of his diminished
capacity in such a stressful position.
My concern is that it shows weakness to our enemies to have our nation's
leader present himself to the world as a confused, doddering old man. I
find it alarming that the entire planet has seen our vulnerability of
leadership.
The OP Hack
We have still been unable to trace the hack that took the website down
for two hours this week. The origins appear to be from within the United
States, but thus far, that's all we know.
For reference, the hack occurred shortly after an article about
warrantless gun confiscation
by Robert began to go viral. Is it related? That's really impossible to
say and we'll probably never know. But the thing we do know is that the
alternative media is being silenced regularly, so we've reached the
point I'd never rule anything out.
