My Fellow Utah Republicans, Earlier today, the Salt Lake Tribune published an article with interviews and statements from many women detailing disturbing interactions involving the Salt Lake County Republican Party Chair, Scott Miller, and his former Communications Director, David Robinson. In response to this article and to an email Miller sent yesterday to thousands of Utahns preemptively attacking these women – some of Utah's most well-known and respected Republican women – I released the following statement: "The allegations against Salt Lake County Chairman Scott Miller and his Communications Director David Robinson are appalling. Yesterday, Miller made a statement which read as an attempt to shield both he and Robinson from forthcoming allegations of bullying, intimidation, and harassment that they knew would soon be made public in an article that was released today. Ironically, his statement proceeded to bully, intimidate, and harass individual women, by name, not only substantiating their allegations but perhaps providing a public example of what they may have experienced privately. To each of these women, know that the Utah Republican Party stands for your right to engage in the political arena free of bullying, intimidation, or harassment. As your Chairman, I personally stand for everyone’s right to speak openly about your experiences, and to do so free from fear of retribution. I also repudiate, in the strongest of terms, Miller’s assertion that what these women experienced is simply “what goes on in a normal campaign.” It is not. During my time as Chairman, we have spent countless hours recruiting and supporting incredible women in their mission to make a difference in Utah. We hired the party’s first-ever female executive director, and also spent significant state party resources helping the county campaigns of some of the very women mentioned in today’s article, who were alienated by Miller and Robinson. Jurisdiction over this troubling matter lies with the Salt Lake County Republican Party. I, therefore, call on the county party Executive Committee to immediately meet and address these allegations in a way that ensures this never happens again."
