Additionally, EBYD's Executive Board recently met to discuss the three pressing items below. We voted to tentatively endorse all three using the expedited process outlined in our bylaws that allows the board to do so "provided said position is consistent with this organization’s platform."
Berkeley Mayor Jesse ArreguĂn's "Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act". TOPA is a policy that empowers tenants to determine the future of their housing when an Owner is ready to sell, by giving tenants the opportunity to collectively purchase the property they live in.
California Senator Scott Weiner's Senate Bill 379 ("Equitable and Inclusive UC Healthcare Act"). SB 379 ensures that University of California Health System (UC Health) contracts with healthcare facilities that allow UC staff practicing in those facilities to provide a full range of healthcare services, including reproductive and gender-affirming care.
California Senator Henry Stern's Senate Bill 90 and California Assembly Member Miguel Santiago's Assembly Bill 1416 ("Ballot DISCLOSE Act").SB 90 and AB 1416 ensure that the ballot given to each voter will list the main supporters and opponents to each statewide ballot measure, though the list of each cannot exceed 15 words.
Members have seven days as of this notice to object to an endorsement under this process, therefore pushing the contested item(s) to the next available general membership meeting.
