Hi John, bad news.
Republicans are unashamed of their xenophobic rhetoric that has triggered a dramatic spike in anti-Asian hate crimes. We didn't expect them to repent or apologize after the recent shooting in Atlanta -- we knew they would just continue to deflect and pretend to be in no way responsible. But now, some of the worst offenders are seeking higher offices, and we're rising to get these racists out of our political system for good.
Congressman Mo Brooks, one of Trump's most dangerous allies, announced on Monday that he's running for the soon to be vacant Senate seat in Alabama.
Mo Brooks has made the news several times during his career in the House, and it's never been good. He has proudly accused Democrats who promote diversity and elevate voters of color of waging a “war on whites,” and he has made multiple xenophobic statements including that he would do “anything short of shooting them” to keep undocumented immigrants out of our country.
And Mo Brooks isn't trying to hide his xenophobic past in his Senate run — in fact, he put it front and center when he announced his campaign alongside Stephen Miller, the architect of many of Trump's racist immigration policies.
John, we can't allow racist Republicans like Mo Brooks to have their voices elevated — especially now, when we've seen the deadly consequences of their words.
