John,
People in the LGBTQ+ community must be protected under federal law.
In particular, let's ensure that gender identity and sexual orientation are protected under the Civil Rights Act -- by getting the Equality Act passed immediately.
SIGN NOW to stand with the LGBTQ+ community and urge Congress to pass the Equality Act >>
I fought for marriage equality during my first term as AG, refusing to defend Oregon’s ban on same-sex marriage. As a result, we had marriage equality in Oregon well before the U. S. Supreme Court declared it so in Obergefell v. Hodges.
In my second term, I fought to broaden the scope of Oregon's hate crimes. I led a bill that passed our legislature making criminal conduct motivated by a person’s gender identity a bias crime -- for the first time in state history.
We need to secure equal rights at the federal level NOW!
The Equality Act amends the 1964 Civil Rights Act to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity -- in employment, housing, public accommodations, education, federally funded programs, credit, jury service, and more. So you can see why IT'S TREMENDOUSLY IMPORTANT.
We need 2,400 more names to get this petition national recognition and show widespread public support. SIGN NOW to join the fight to pass the Equality Act >>
Thanks for your support!
