Friend, I'll be upfront with you: I'm about to ask you for a donation ahead of our very first FEC deadline of this election cycle. Before I do that, I want to share a bit with you about why I'm running for reelection.
(Or, if you're in a hurry, click here to donate now to become a Founding Donor of our campaign, make sure we reach our $30,000 FEC goal and defend this critical Democratic Senate seat.)
A fierce determination to make life better for American families has always been – and will always be – at the center of everything I do. It's what drives me to never let up in the fights that matter most, no matter how tough they get.
Just this month, after two horrific mass shootings in the span of less than a week, Ted Cruz accused Democrats of "ridiculous theater" for taking action to prevent the next tragedy. But the real theater here is my GOP colleagues offering thoughts and prayers, then blocking real reforms that can save lives.
Because here's the truth: The shooter in Atlanta, without a weapon, was a misogynist and a racist. But armed with a gun, he was a mass murderer and a monster. The shooter in Boulder was a deeply disturbed man. But with a military-style assault weapon, he became a horrific killer.
Whether it's circumstances like Boulder and Atlanta, or domestic violence and those at risk of suicide, we know that separating dangerous people from guns will save lives. There are so many commonsense reforms that will put a stop to the gun violence we've seen plague our country. So we've got a lot of work to do in the Senate – and some tough fights against my Republican colleagues who care more about the NRA's donations than the safety of our families and communities.
Gun violence is just one of many challenges our country is facing right now. But with a new administration, there are also many opportunities to make progress on these critical issues – which is why I'm as determined as ever to continue these fights by winning reelection in 2022.
But our tenuous 50-50 Democratic Senate control is the key to that progress – control we will lose if the GOP flips even just one seat this cycle. And the National Republican Senatorial Committee has already placed a target on my seat to try to give Senate control back to Mitch McConnell and his right wing extremists. That means the full force of their megadonor machine will be pouring millions upon millions of dollars into this race.
That's why hitting our first $30,000 end-of-quarter FEC goal is so important. Not only will it ensure that we have the resources to hit the ground running in what is sure to be a tough race ahead, but it will also send a clear message to the GOP that this seat isn't up for grabs. We can't get there without you though, Friend. So please, can I count on your support today?
Make a donation now to become a Founding Donor, help me keep this crucial seat to defend the Senate. Every dollar will make a world of difference as we fight to keep this seat out of the hands of a GOP extremist.
