You may know me as the writer of “You’ve Got A Friend,” but I’m writing today as a dear friend of Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney. And I’m not using the word lightly.

I was with Carolyn while she comforted people after 9/11, and I watched her campaign tirelessly for years to make sure that the frontline workers suffering from serious medical problems after 9/11 had the resources to met the care they needed.

I just learned that Carolyn’s campaign has a fundraising deadline coming up at the end of this month.

Carolyn has long been a powerful and effective force on the front line for equity and social justice, environmental protection, and the dignity of every one of her constituents. And yet a number of candidates have already announced their plans to challenge her in 2022. And with multiple opponents looking for any sign of weakness, Carolyn needs to meet her campaign’s goal for the first quarterly report of this cycle.

Carolyn’s persistence on progressive issues is truly inspiring. Her daily acts of fierce advocacy and public service on behalf of her culturally and geographically diverse constituents have brought relief and comfort to so many people.

And she also cares about the planet.

Just this month, she re-introduced the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act (NREPA) which will protect over 23 MILLION ACRES of national forest land owned by all Americans and help ensure that over 1,800 miles of flowing water will remain clean and clear for years to come.

But NREPA is more than just an environmental bill. Protecting 23 million acres of carbon stored by trees on nationally owned public land will go a long way toward solving the climate crisis.

Carolyn Maloney is an indefatigable force of nature, and she’s also a force for nature. I’m so proud to stand with her on this and so many other important issues.
