John -- We are closing out our month-long celebration of Women's History Month with St. Louis’ own Rep. Cori Bush!
The very first candidate we ever endorsed has been making history in St. Louis and in Congress and there’s simply no way we could ever do her endless list of accomplishments justice in one email.
But let’s hit some highlights! 👀
Only a couple of weeks ago Cori made Amazon and Jeff Bezos feel the heat for their unconscionable treatment of employees. Workers at the Bessemer, Alabama facility have been organizing to form a union. In response, Amazon continues to use scare tactics and intimidation to stop them. Outraged by these tactics, Cori joined workers on the picket line to draw attention to the movement, and the workers may very well vote to unionize, setting the stage for a ripple effect across the country and perhaps even the globe.
“Do right by the people who prop you up to be at home in your big, brand-new California house...We are asking you to treat people with decency and humanity…”
There are so many women out there like Cori, who are fearless and committed to community. We aim to find them, lift their voices, and help them get elected to office in 2022. Will you contribute $10 and fuel our search today?
As the first Black woman to serve the state of Missouri in Congress, and the very first Black Lives Matter activist to serve in Congress, Cori is also making history with her legislative efforts.
Cori proposed an amendment to H.R.1 to allow incarcerated persons to vote from within prison. While the amendment failed, a serious discussion took place in the House about the disenfranchisement of millions of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people.
We know she won’t give up on restoring voting rights to ALL people and we are so grateful to Cori for not shying away from difficult but vital conversations!
Chip in $10 and help us elect more bold, fearless women in 2022!
Just days after being sworn in, Cori proposed legislation to hold accountable every seditious member of Congress who played a part in the deadly Capitol riot on January 6th.
And only two days after President Joe Biden was sworn in, she sent a letter, cosigned by more than 30 House members, calling for him to commute the sentences of federal inmates on death row.
And now she is a leading voice in the fight to overturn the archaic and racist Senate filibuster, a rule that is stopping meaningful legislation from going to the president’s desk, and has historically been used as a tool to advance Jim Crow laws.
Cori is without a doubt the conscience of the movement!
Will you ensure Cori isn’t left to fight alone by contributing $10 to elect the next slate of badass, progressive women in 2022?
John, Cori ran for federal office twice before getting elected to serve.
Even after TWO losses, she refused to give up. And Brand New Congress never gave up on her! Her efforts have served as a roadmap for taking on powerful forces and creating progressive wins.
We have so much to learn from Cori as we begin announcing (coming sooner than you think) the bold, progressive women of the 2022 slate!
