John,
This year marked the start of Jared’s second term in Congress, and he’s already hit the ground running on advancing legislation to better the lives of working people in ME-02. We want to keep you up to date on what Jared’s been working on, so here are a few pieces of legislation Jared has voted to help pass this year...
FOR THE PEOPLE ACT:
Jared was an original cosponsor of the For the People Act and was proud to cast his vote in support of the most comprehensive election reform and anti-corruption legislation in decades. If enacted, this sweeping bill would expand voting rights, reduce the influence of dark money and special interests groups, and bring much needed transparency to our politics.
THE PROTECTING THE RIGHT TO ORGANIZE (PRO) ACT:
Jared knows that stronger unions lead to a stronger middle-class in America. That’s why last month, he led a group of over 100 House members to push House leadership to hold a vote on the PRO Act, a bill that would pave the way for higher wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions. By passing the PRO Act, the House took an important step towards strengthening worker protections, not limiting them.
THE EQUALITY ACT:
Jared was proud to cosponsor the Equality Act so that protections for LGBTQ Mainers don’t stop when they leave the state. He believes that no Mainer should be treated unfairly because of who they are, which is why he voted for this bipartisan bill to extend anti-discrimination protections -- not just in the workplace, but in every place.
THE EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT (ERA):
If ratified, the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) would guarantee equal rights under the law regardless of sex. Last week, Jared was proud to support removing the arbitrary and unnecessary deadline for constitutional ratification of the ERA, helping Congress pave the way towards ending the remaining legal distinctions between men and women in areas such as property, employment, and divorce.
THE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN ACT (VAWA) OF 2021:
Domestic violence is a serious issue in Maine that has been exacerbated by the ongoing pandemic. The programs and resources in the Violence Against Women Act -- like those that provide a safe place for victims to turn when escaping violence and abuse -- are critical to making headway on addressing domestic violence. That’s why Jared once again supported this bipartisan bill to address domestic violence, sexual assault, and related issues.
Jared has had a productive start to 2021, and John, none of it would have been possible without you. Your support is what kept Jared in Washington as an independent voice for Maine’s Second District, so thank you for everything you do.
Sincerely,
Team Golden
P.S. The GOP establishment has already listed Jared as one of their top targets next year. We can’t let them undo all the progress he’s made, so we have to ask: Will you chip in $5 or more to help Jared continue this important work on behalf of ME-02 in Congress?
