Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams are responding to a massive influx of people fleeing conflict in Ethiopia’s Tigray region. In the past few weeks, we have seen increasing numbers of people coming to the town of Shire, which was already overwhelmed by thousands displaced by the intense violence. MSF emergency coordinator Ozan Agbas says people are arriving physically and mentally exhausted—most have been uprooted multiple times. They tell us about the atrocities they have witnessed or experienced. MSF is running three fixed clinics, as well as a mobile clinic to reach new arrivals. We are urging other organizations to scale up support quickly to prevent a bigger disaster as the rainy season approaches, and
with it the threat of potential disease outbreaks.
