The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown into sharp relief the digital divide in
our country, and it has become clear that the current Federal
Communications Commission is not up to the task of fixing this inequity.

As we deal with the continuing digital demands of the pandemic, the FCC
has a long list of crucial actions it must take. The most vital one is
reinstating net neutrality, the principle that everyone should have equal
access to the internet. But the current four commissioners on the FCC have
shown neither the interest nor the ability to ensure that everyone has
internet access.

It’s critical that the Biden-Harris administration take immediate action
to nominate a fifth commissioner who understands and values the importance
of equitable internet access, and that the Senate then rapidly confirms
this nominee.

protect internet access during the pandemic and beyond! >>

The White House must fully staff, and place a high priority on, media and
telecommunications policy – particularly one that prioritizes universal
internet access. As the COVID-19 pandemic remains a threat, FCC action is
urgently needed to bridge the digital divide so that everyone has
affordable internet access enabling them to stay safe while working and
learning remotely.

Right now, nearly 80 million people in the United States do not have
adequate broadband at home – with low-income families and communities of
color remaining disproportionately disconnected. The absence of effective
net neutrality regulations gives internet providers too much power over
people who need to use their services in order to survive – and that’s why
the White House must nominate someone who prioritizes access.

functioning FCC! >>

Our communities don’t have the luxury of waiting for internet access –
they need it right away. We must urge the White House and the Senate to
move quickly to ensure we have an FCC that values equitable access.
