When I pick the top stories every week, I try to make sure people are always front and center. But for some reason there were loads of amazing art stories that cropped up this week — and after all, isn't art just a different form of people doing good stuff? So take a tour of an epic new Disney castle, marvel at record-breaking paintings and wonder just what, exactly, a medieval English artist was thinking when they made a little silver snail "meme." (He or she was probably giggling, to be honest.) It just goes to show that no matter the time or place, people have always been the same — a little weird, and endlessly, incandescently creative.
P.S. For extra credit, who knows what piece of art inspired today's illustration? I'll put the answer down with the video!

... and something small and old Raise a glass to... Sister Jean, everyone's favorite 101-year-old basketball-loving nun. Sister Jean is a March Madness icon, and a beloved good luck charm for Loyola University Chicago's basketball team. The nun reached TV fame in 2018 after cameras showed her pre-game prayer and her cheering from the sidelines as the team went on a Cinderella run at the NCAA tournament. This year, fully vaccinated from Covid-19, she's getting to watch the Ramblers from the stands. And yes, she's still praying for them. "I plan them — every one," she recently told CNN. "You should see the collection I have in my room. I never say the same prayer, any time, over the years. It's always different for every game." It's helped so far as Loyola defeated No. 1 seed Illinois last week, and will face off against Oregon State in the Sweet 16 today. You gotta see this Remember at the beginning of the pandemic, everyone was freaking out over images of dolphins swimming in Venice's canals? Those images weren't real, but this one is! A pair of dolphins really did take a little Venetian excursion, swimming up the famous Grand Canal and then heading over to Giudecca Island before going back into the Adriatic Sea. If you're a dolphin with wanderlust, don't get any ideas — it was a dangerous trip for the pair, but they were tailed by marine rescue teams and it's believed they made it safely home. Heroes among us For more than a decade, Zannah Mustapha has devoted his life to providing hope and peace for children caught in the epicenter of the Boko Haram insurgency. The militant group's name means literally "Western education is forbidden," and its fighters have terrorized schools for years. Mustapha, a Nigerian-born attorney, humanitarian and 2021 CNN Hero, started educating children affected by this ongoing violence in 2007. Now, he and his staff teach more than 2,000 students from both sides of the conflict at the Future Prowess Islamic Foundation School in Maiduguri. That includes the orphaned children of insurgent fighters, and children displaced by the conflict. So far, he says, 1,023 students have graduated and many have gone on to college or careers. Mustapha did even more lifesaving work four years ago when he helped mediate the release of 103 Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram. Wanna get away? The Seychelles, a sweeping archipelago nation off the coast of East Africa, doesn't just want you to come enjoy their aquamarine waters and rich jungles. They want you to feel as safe as possible while doing it. After a huge tourism downturn during the pandemic, the country's leaders have almost entirely reopened the country's borders, and are well on their way to completing an aggressive national vaccination strategy. In fact, the Seychelles is just behind Israel in the race to become the first country to vaccinate its entire population. So when you drop by to bask in the year-round warm weather or contemplate the breathtaking granite boulders towering over the beach of Anse Source D'Argent, the only thing you'll have to worry about spreading is sunblock. Who knew? Do octopuses dream? That's the kind of question that will keep you up at night. However, they do change color as they snooze, and a recent study suggests they switch between active and quiet sleep just as humans switch between deep sleep and REM sleep. That means they have sleep cycles, and with the color change thing, well, they may dream! The lead researcher of the study says the only reason we don't know for sure is because octopuses can't tell us if they do, and well, you can't really argue with that logic. Impact your world In the fight against racial hatred, knowledge can be both a sword and a shield. Esther Lim, a Korean American woman living in Los Angeles, has created a hate crime booklet for Asian American seniors to prepare them in case they are racially targeted. Sadly, seniors are often victims of this type of hate, and Lim noticed a lot of these community members couldn't speak English very well and didn't know what they needed to do to get justice. Last year, she put together a booklet called "How to Report a Hate Crime" with information to guide her parents in case they ever found themselves in that situation. Now, she's published the booklet in seven languages — English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Thai and Vietnamese. More than 4,500 copies have been distributed, and thousands more digital versions have been downloaded online. Rec of the week

There's always time for cute animal videos. That time is now.
Someone needs to take TikTok away from me, because I just end up crying over animal videos all day. Whatever you're doing this weekend, a bobcat cuddling a giant stuffed animal will make it better. Oh, and the painting is "Wanderer above the Sea of Fog" by Caspar David Friedrich. So moody! (Click here to view video) A newsletter for the good in life
