This is big news, friend.
California state scientists have proposed adding PFOA, a notorious PFAS chemical, to the state’s Proposition 65 list of chemicals known to cause cancer.
PFOA and other PFAS chemicals have been used in consumer products for decades for their nonstick and grease-resistant properties. Although PFOA was phased out in 2005, this chemical never breaks down and is still found in our water and imported consumer products.
Hundreds of similar chemicals are still used in consumer products like cookware, food packaging and cosmetics. California’s decision is a good first step, but there’s so much more we need to do to confront the PFAS contamination crisis.
EWG is fighting to protect you from cancer-linked PFAS chemicals, but we need your help. In light of this historic news, we’re looking for 4,209 supporters to help us formulate our plans on PFAS chemicals by midnight tonight. Click here to add your voice now.
