For months we heard lies and misinformation meant to sow distrust in our elections. Even after they lost, they doubled down. Then, the voter suppression bills began emerging from red states. And they haven’t stopped since.
Republican voter suppression is nothing new, but over the last two months their efforts have skyrocketed in intensity. Over 250 voter suppression bills have been proposed in states -- including the blatantly racist legislation that was signed behind closed doors by Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp last night.
As Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock put it in his first ever US Senate floor speech, “we are witnessing a massive and unabashed assault on voting rights unlike anything we have seen since the Jim Crow era.”
