Team -- I’m furious.
Our state, which has worked so hard over the last 50 years to protect and expand access to the ballot box, just proved that you can’t take a single step forward without taking two steps back.
Last night, Governor Kemp signed into law anti-voter legislation that blatantly targets people of color -- legislation that will
make it harder for voters to have their voices heard in our elections.
And as he was signing this horrible bill,
police officers arrested Democratic state Rep. Park Cannon -- a Black woman -- for knocking on his office door so she could be witness to the rollback of her community’s rights. Want to know who did get to witness it?
Six white men.
So, why not be more obviously racist about it, Governor Kemp?
Why not just go ahead and officially call this bill what it is: Jim Crow 2.0?
Georgians -- especially Black Georgians -- are so tired of having to constantly fight for their
right to participate in our democracy. Year after year, Republicans do everything they can to pick their voters, rather than allow the voters to pick their leaders.
But we can’t give up, and we
won’t go back.
I’m asking personally, will you rush a split contribution to Our American Dreams and Fair Fight Action today? OAD is hard at work to elect progressive women who will defend our right to vote, and Stacey Abrams’s organization, Fair Fight Action, is on the front lines helping voters have their voices heard.
