Minnesota School District Agrees to $300,000 Settlement in Transgender Locker Room Case

ACLU-MN/Facebook

The Anoka-Hennepin School District has agreed to pay a $300,000 settlement with a former student after the Minnesota Court of Appeals ruled against the district last fall when the student sued because she had not been allowed to use the boys’ locker room. The district also agreed to adopt a “policy to allow every student to use all facilities consistent with their gender identity.”

The student, identified as N.H., is female and identifies as male. When she expressed discomfort at the idea of using the girls' locker room, the school district provided an enhanced privacy changing area in an effort to accommodate her without compromising the privacy of other students. In response, N.H.’s mother sued the school district and in September of last year, the Minnesota Court of Appeals ruled 2-1 against the Anoka-Hennepin school district.

ACLU’s attorney David McKinney said he hopes the $300,000 settlement “puts every other school district in Minnesota on notice.”

Abortion Victims are NOT "Medical Waste"

Abortionists and their allies are attacking a recent pro-life law in Ohio that requires the dignified treatment of the remains of babies who have been killed by abortion. This law draws attention to the reality of abortion by affirming the humanity of unborn children - it’s no wonder abortionists want to see it overturned. Because all humans are created in the image of God, the human body ought to be treated with dignity and respect, even after death, regardless of how that person died. This means that aborted babies should never be thrown away, but should be given a proper burial or cremation.

When considering the staggering human cost of abortion, one question that is sometimes overlooked is what happens to those babies after they are aborted. As one pro-lifer asked, “What do you do with 65 million bodies?” In some cases, abortionists like Kermit Gosnell and Ulrich Klopfer have hoarded the bodies of their victims as trophies, or, as the 2015 undercover investigation of Planned Parenthood revealed, body parts are illegally sold for profit. In many cases, though, the bodies of babies who have been killed in abortion are thrown away as “medical waste.” Several states have moved to change that, passing laws requiring that abortion victims’ remains be either buried or cremated.

Ohio’s law is the most recent to be challenged in court, with ACLU representing several abortion clinics who claim that this creates an undue burden. Minnesota’s fetal remains law is one of several pro-life laws being targeted by the radical pro-abortion campaign, Unrestrict Minnesota.

Under Ohio’s law, which passed earlier this year and is currently scheduled to go into effect in early April, abortion facilities may not treat an aborted baby’s remains as medical waste, but must instead arrange for burial or cremation. This law recognizes the reality that what is treated as “medical waste” after an abortion is, in fact, a human body.

Senate Confirms Rachel Levine as Assistant Health Secretary

Conservative groups have denounced the Senate's confirmation of Dr. Rachel Levine to be assistant secretary of health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. President Joe Biden nominated Levine for the position, in part, because he would be the first openly trans-identifying individual to serve as a federal official.

Levine, who was born Richard Levine and formerly served as Pennsylvania Health Secretary, was confirmed by the Senate on Wednesday in a vote of 52-48.

In remarks delivered before the vote, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., called the Levine confirmation an important milestone on behalf of the transgender community.

New Report Shows Teens are Choosing Life!

Last week, the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute released long-term data on rates of pregnancies, births, and abortions in the U.S. The national data range from 1973 to 2017 and include breakdowns by age demographics, and the state-level data range from 1988 to 2017.

These statistics are especially helpful because, while the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) provide some information about the age demographics of women obtaining abortions, their data are incomplete. For instance, the CDC’s 2018 Abortion Surveillance Report did not include data from California, Maryland, New Hampshire, and Wyoming.

As a result, this new Guttmacher report provides interesting information for understanding U.S. abortion trends. In 2012, my Lozier Institute colleague Susan Wills analyzed CDC data and found that the largest abortion-rate declines were taking place among younger age demographics.

These new data suggest that the trend is continuing, as the report shows that between 1980 and 2017, the abortion rate for females between the ages of 15 and 19 fell by more than 82 percent. The abortion rate for 35-to-39-year-olds fell by only 8.5 percent during the same timespan.
