Off to the races in 2021!

TRANS HISTORY IN THE U.S. SENATE!

Rachel Levine Confirmed

This week, the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Dr. Rachel Levine as Assistant Secretary for Health! Dr. Levine makes history as the first out trans person ever confirmed by the Senate.

Upon her confirmation, Dr. Levine issued the following statement, writing a special message to America’s trans youth. You can read her full statement here.

As Victory Institute’s Executive Director Ruben Gonzales said to Harrisburg’s CBS 21, we know this historic moment is just the beginning. Watch the full interview here!

STAND WITH OUT LEADERS

We stand with Leslie Herod: earlier this week, a right-wing sheriff called Colorado state Representative Leslie Herod a “terrorist” and urged a packed room of conspiracy theorists to “get her out of office”. Rep. Herod made history as the first Black out LGBTQ person elected to the Colorado General Assembly.

Georgia state Representative Park Cannon was arrested and dragged from the state capitol after she knocked on the door of the Governor’s office as he was signing legislation to suppress voters in his state. Thankfully, Rep. Cannon has since been released and is safe. We're proud to stand with Rep. Cannon and demand the charges be dropped

Transphobes in New York launched a last attack against Spotlight candidate Elisa Crespo just as voters hit the polls. It will take a bit before results come, and we’re proud to stand with Elisa while we wait.

Chi Ossé, our candidate for New York City Council District 36, hit the campaign trail for Elisa and let her know he’s on her team. We love to see out candidates supporting each other!

COUNTDOWN: NEW MEXICO

We’re about four days away from decision day for Victor Reyes! Roughly 200 state party central committee members will pick a party nominee to fill Interior Secretary Deb Haaland’s seat on March 30. Victor is rolling out messages from supporters, including former NM Secretary of Health Kathy Kunkel and State Central Committee member Bunnie Benton Cruse, and flexed his legislative bona fides.

MEET THE MARCH ENDORSEMENTS

Earlier this week, we launched our latest endorsement slate, including a new list of Spotlight candidates. We’re excited to support Corey Johnson in his race for New York City Comptroller, Liliana Bakhtiari in her race for Atlanta City Council, Tyler Titus in their race for Erie County Executive in Pennsylvania, and elevate Crystal Hudson for New York City Council, District 35 to Spotlight status!

Also among our latest endorsements are two candidates with election days right around the corner: Kristal Larson, running for Avon Township clerk, and Michael Campbell, running for reelection as Fox River Grove Memorial Library board trustee. Election Day is April 6!

Learn a little bit more about Vincent Solomeno, our candidate for the New Jersey state Senate! If elected, Solomeno would be the only out elected official serving in the state legislature.
