John,
Going to the grocery store or spending a day at work should be routine and normal. But in the last two weeks, 18 people were gunned down while doing these everyday activities in Boulder and Atlanta.
Public leaders offering condolences then ignoring the overwhelming number of Americans who want common sense gun safety laws should not be routine and normal. But that's the all-too-familiar response happening once again after the latest mass shootings in American communities.
We need action -- starting with life-saving background check legislation. This week Everytown for Gun Safety -- which Mike co-founded and supports -- announced a major, nationwide campaign called "More Than Thoughts and Prayers" to urge the U.S. Senate to pass a background check law.
Mike pledged that he will triple-match donations to Everytown to support "More Than Thoughts and Prayers" and get real gun safety reforms passed. This is a moment for all of us to step up.
Will you join the effort to pass a background check law?
With Mike's triple match of donations, "More Than Thoughts and Prayers" will include a seven-figure TV and digital ad campaign to build momentum and push the Senate to pass background check legislation. Everytown will also be organizing virtual grassroots events and activating a network of six million Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action supporters in an unprecedented effort to call and message Senate offices.
The massive mobilization is designed to overcome obstruction in the Senate and make sure our laws reflect the positions of the American people. More than 90% of Americans support background checks for gun purchases, including 89% of Republicans and gun owners. They understand that we need sensible gun safety measures -- not only to prevent the mass shootings that make headlines, but because more than 100 people in America die from gun violence every day, while hundreds more are wounded.
Announcing his support and the triple match of all donations to Everytown, Mike said: "The nation is in mourning but we cannot let Senators use our grief and anger as an excuse for inaction. We've heard that too many times. This campaign will make it clear that the American people want these common sense changes."
It's time to change the routine. Will you join Mike and Everytown to help get it done?
