Tomorrow night on the 15th of Nissan, Jewish families throughout the world will gather to celebrate Passover and to relive the Exodus from Egypt. Again this year, for all faith traditions in America, the story of Passover has a new relevance as we recall the Jews sheltering in their homes as the Angel of Death passed over to visit the 10th plague on the first born of Egypt. Tonight, due to the lingering Covid plague, many of us are still sheltering in our homes, not with our extended families and friends, to wait for this modern plague in our midst to pass. But there are multiple modern “Moses,” our doctors and scientists, Operation Warp Speed, Governors, Mayors, hospitals, and others who have created and distributed the life-saving vaccines to people throughout our country and the world. With God’s mercy and love, we pray not only (as is our tradition) to celebrate next year in Jerusalem, but we pray that wherever we will be, we will be with our extended families and friends, celebrating joyously together!
We wish a Chag Pesach Sameach, a Joyous Passover, to all our Jewish friends and family and to return to normal life without fear of Covid. May all who are ill have a Refuah Shleimah, a full and speedy recovery, and may all of us be blessed to gather and rejoice without measure or fear, and to do so soon!
Sincerely,
Sue Hatfield Leora R. Levy John H. Frey
