Just hours after Lucy emailed you yesterday, Georgia Republicans pushed their voter suppression bill through, and Governor Brian Kemp immediately signed it into law.

They thought that, if they rushed this bill through without a real process and signed it behind locked doors, then they could minimize the fallout and convince us to give up.

The truth is, that is what they are counting on. This bill is about throwing up barriers and trying to get us to give in to the cynicism.

But Lucy’s father taught her to keep the faith. When he was head of the Illinois NAACP, he showed her that when you’re knocked down, you get back up and you recommit to the work. That’s how he ended up sitting next to President Johnson as he signed the Civil Rights Act 1964.

Republicans just passed their major voter suppression bill through the Georgia House.

This bill is full of anti-democratic ideas that call back to the Jim Crow era. This is a blatant attempt to silence voters of color and rewrite the rules to favor Republicans.
