This week I continued to highlight President Biden’s messaging and policies that led to the unprecedented crisis we are seeing at our southern border. I also introduced my bipartisan bill that gives the firearms industry the power to appeal ATF rulings. Right now, ATF can impose rules that kill jobs or restrict firearm access, with no recourse for industry other than suing the federal government. My bipartisan bill would fix that by giving the firearms industry the power to appeal unilateral ATF rulings. Click here for more information on my legislation.

President Biden’s messaging and policy created the border crisis. He signaled to illegal immigrants that he wouldn’t deport them as long as they brought a kid and promised them free health care. Biden then reversed every Trump policy that deterred illegal immigration. It’s that simple.

This week, I went on MSNBC to debate Mehdi Hasan on the causes of the crisis at the border and potential solutions. I have to warn you that it’s a tough interview to watch but it is the kind of policy debate you don’t see often on cable news. Mehdi made some odd claims, like saying that President Biden never signaled that he wouldn’t deport illegal immigrants, even though President Biden promised to pause deportations for 100 days only to be blocked by a federal judge. Mehdi also said that President Biden inherited this problem from President Trump, even though President Biden reversed virtually every policy President Trump implemented to deter illegal immigration.
Here’s the bottom line: any honest observer can admit that President Biden created this crisis. Now we have to talk about solutions.
