President Barack Obama is calling on the Senate to act on gun violence NOW:
Stand with Barack Obama: Demand the Senate take immediate action on gun violence →
Earlier this month, our Democratic scientists in the House helped PASS two major gun violence prevention measures:
- H.R. 8 — The Bipartisan Background Checks Act is supported by 97% of Americans and would expand background checks to all firearm sales
- H.R. 1146 — The Enhanced Background Checks Act, originally introduced by one of our scientists in the previous Congress, closes loopholes in our background check system and would close the infamous “Charleston Loophole”
Both bills are being held up by NRA loyalists in the Senate like Ted Cruz and Ron Johnson. If they passed, there’s no telling how many lives could be saved. Thoughts and prayers are not enough to keep firearms out of the hands of dangerous and hate-fueled individuals: We need action, we need laws without loopholes, we need comprehensive background checks, and this is a view supported by more than 90 percent of Americans and 90 percent of gun-owners. Obama is right, the Senate MUST address the epidemic of gun violence: Demand the Senate take action to address gun violence.
The data is clear: Establishing universal background checks and closing loopholes (like the gunshow and Charleston loopholes) will save lives. 314 Action Fund
