Friend,
Over the past year, Americans of Asian descent have experienced a rising tide of anti-Asian violence, hatred, and discrimination.
Businesses have suffered from racist boycotts; families have suffered verbal and physical assault brought on by slurs like “kung flu”; communities have suffered some of the greatest job losses due to the disproportionate number of Asian Americans who work in the service and healthcare sectors; and eight people were killed, including six women of Asian descent, in a mass shooting.
Last week’s shooting in Georgia was a wake-up call for so many to the reality that Asian Americans face every day, with 3,800 reported cases of anti-Asian discrimination in the last year alone. We all have a role to play in stopping the spread of anti-Asian violence and lifting up communities in need.
Today, March 26, my colleagues and I have organized a virtual Day of Action and Healing to address the alarming spike in anti-Asian discrimination and hate that we have seen throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. I hope you’ll join me in rejecting bigotry and standing in solidarity with the Asian American community. You can participate by using #StopAsianHate today on social media.
Thank you,
Ted
