Dear John,

This week is a momentous one for the National Homelessness Law Center. After 32 years of leadership, Founder Maria Foscarinis[[link removed]] transitions into her next roles in advocacy, and the Law Center welcomes Antonia Fasanelli as its next Executive Director.

At this significant moment in the Law Center’s history, I cannot help but reflect on Maria’s impact on homelessness advocacy in the United States.

Since founding Law Center in 1989, Maria has developed major advocacy initiatives; testified repeatedly before Congress; published dozens of articles, book chapters, and opinion pieces; spoken regularly about legal and policy issues affecting people experiencing homelessness; and been a constant voice for housing justice in the media.

Though homelessness and housing insecurity continue to be major issues facing our communities, it is safe to say that we would be in a much worse place without Maria’s leadership, vision, and advocacy.

Fortunately, Maria will not be leaving this work behind: She plans to continue to write, teach, and advocate on behalf of the human right to housing, and to remain available as a consultant and ally to the Law Center.

But during this historic transition, we honor Maria with the introduction of the Foscarinis Fund. This fund recognizes and honors Maria for her decades of service to the Law Center and will support the Law Center’s work for years to come.

Please join me in honoring and thanking Founder Maria Foscarinis by making a donation to the Foscarinis Fund today.[[link removed]]

Thank you,

Eric Bensky, Chair of the Board of Directors
National Homelessness Law Center
