Remember Florida Governor Ron DeSantis? The same guy who blocked hundreds of thousands of felons from voting right before the 2020 elections, despite Floridians approving a felon voting rights measure en masse?
Well now, DeSantis is trying to get critical race theory thrown out of Florida's education curriculum, claiming that teaching race theory is anti-American: “Teaching kids to hate their country and to hate each other is not worth one red cent of taxpayer money,” said DeSantis in a press conference.
You know what's really un-American? Glossing over the brutal historical oppression of minorities to promote nationalism in schools.
DeSantis is a perfect example of how the GOP will always stand in the way of progress -- and as long as DeSantis and representatives like him are allowed to rig democracy to keep themselves in power, our country will continue to regress.
Republicans saw how effective voter suppression was in Florida when they beat Andrew Gillum in 2018. Now they're going all in making sure every race in 2022 ends like DeSantis' did, with minorities not being allowed to vote and Republicans coming out on top.
We're not going to let Desantis cheat his way to power again. And we hope you'll be right by our side. Grassroots organizing, when started early, has the amazing ability to triumph over the GOP's corruption -- we proved this in 2020, and we'll prove it again in 2022.
Unfortunately, we're facing a hard fight ahead. The GOP has recognized that they can only win in 2022 if they redouble their voter suppression efforts, and they're ramping it up big time -- Georgia, Arizona, and Texas all are limiting mail-in-voting, early voting, absentee voting, and anything else they can get their hands on that would prevent minority voters from casting their ballots.
