Now that the Democratic majority in the House of Representatives has passed the For the People Act, all eyes are on the Senate.

Soon, our senators will consider S. 1, the Senate version of the bill. This historic legislation would strengthen our democracy and dramatically expand voting rights nationwide by:

• Implementing automatic voter registration and expanded early voting and mail-in ballots
• Reforming redistricting and limiting partisan gerrymandering
• Stopping discriminatory voter roll purges
• Restoring voting rights for former felons who completed their sentence
• Increasing transparency for campaign donors and stricter ethics rules for candidates
• Expanding public financing for campaigns 

Tell your senators to pass S. 1, the For the People Act, and end the filibuster if that’s what it takes to get this bill to President Biden’s desk.

In recent weeks, Republican legislators in 43 states have swiftly moved to disenfranchise voters and restrict access to the ballot box. Unless the Senate acts soon, numerous states could see laws that make it much harder to vote and disproportionately impact younger, Black, or brown voters. The For the People Act is our best defense against these shameless plots to undermine the right to vote. 

We know why the GOP is moving so quickly to curtail voting rights. After young people voted in record numbers for the 2020 election, they realized their best path to power is by suppressing voter turnout.

With a razor-thin margin in the U.S. Senate and continued obstruction by Mitch McConnell and Republican senators, it’s nearly impossible to pass S. 1 unless the Democratic majority agrees to end the filibuster — an obsolete rule that prevents the Senate from passing common sense, popular legislation with a simple majority. Senate Democrats must move to abolish the filibuster without delay.

Write to the Senate: End the filibuster and pass the For the People Act to protect voting rights nationwide.
