During his speech at CPAC, Trump mused about how many women's sports records have recently been broken -- ignoring the fact that none of the record-breakers are transgender women -- and urged Republicans to “protect the integrity of women's sports.” And his party is heeding the call: 20 states have introduced legislation that would regulate transgender athletes.
Americans showed their strong support for LGBTQ+ rights by electing President Biden and a Democratic majority in both houses of Congress: Biden signed an executive order banning discrimination based on gender identity on his first day in office, and the Equality Act passed the House and is currently making its way through the Senate.
But the GOP is counting on their discriminatory legislation to turn out voters in 2022, with a Republican strategist telling The Hill that banning transgender athletes is “not just an issue that drives Republicans to the polls, but it's also an issue that allows people to expand our audience.”
Friend, if we don't act fast, this hateful and discriminatory legislation will drive GOP voters to the polls -- and then allow them to take back Congress next year and undo all the progress we've made. We can't let that happen -- which is why we're reaching out to you right now.
