The Stop Danskammer Coalition is a force to be reckoned with, but the work isn't over yet! 

Owners of the Danskammer power plant on the Hudson River in the Town of Newburgh want to replace the current facility—which operates only a few days a year—with a new gas plant that will run nearly all the time.

This full-time fracked gas plant would increase air pollution, harm public health, harm People of Color and low-income communities, and exacerbate the climate crisis. Twenty eight communities along the Hudson River have taken steps to oppose the expansion of the Danskammer fracked gas plant, and many organizations have joined the coalition to fight against the plant. Alliance for a Green Economy is a proud member of the Stop Danskammer Coalition.

On Wednesday, March 31, the Public Service Commission will hold a very important public hearing. It will be one of the few opportunities for people to officially voice their opposition to this fracked gas plant expansion proposal in the Hudson Valley. A large turnout will make a big impression.

We urge folks to register to make a comment at the hearing. The registration deadline is 5pm on Monday, March 29. Please note: you do NOT need to be an expert about the issue in order to speak at the hearing. All you need to do is state your name, where you’re from, and briefly what your think about the Danskammer proposal. If you want to say more, you can, but it’s not required. There will be a 1pm and a 6pm session. Please register for the one most convenient for you.
