Today, in Florida, nearly one million households spend over half their income on a place to live. Often, these families are just one missed paycheck or medical emergency away from homelessness, forced to make impossible decisions...

Their choices are between putting quality food on the table, having access to medical care, owning reliable transportation, or simply keeping a roof over their heads.

Even as the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbates housing instability and millions of families struggle to make rent or cover the mortgage, Tallahassee Republicans remain determined to gut Florida's affordable housing programs.

Recently, leaders in the Republican party announced their plan to use the Sadowski Affordable Housing Fund money for other purposes.

In fact, in the last decade, Tallahassee Republicans have taken over $2.5 billion from the affordable housing fund. Instead, they've used the money to fill budgetary shortfalls and subsidize corporate tax cuts.

With Florida receiving $17 billion in federal funding from the American Rescue Plan, there is no excuse for gutting critically needed affordable housing programs.

Make your voice heard by emailing the House Speaker and the Senate President, demanding the affordable housing fund is used for its intended purposes.

You can also call the offices of the House Speaker (850) 717-5065 and the Senate President (850) 487-5010, asking them not to sweep the Sadowski Affordable Housing Fund.

Thank you for taking action.
