Texas Senate Passes Freedom to Worship Act, House Holds Hearing

Momentum continues to build at the Texas Capitol in support of religious freedom! Earlier today, the Texas Senate passed the Freedom to Worship Act, SB 26 by Sen. Angela Paxton, in a bipartisan vote of 28-2. The Freedom to Worship Act makes it clear that no government official can close churches or any place of worship during a pandemic, especially not when other businesses and establishments are allowed the right to open. The Senate also passed SJR 27 by Sen. Kelly Hancock, a proposed constitutional amendment that would add similar protections in the Texas Constitution.

Today, the Texas House State Affairs Committee also heard the House version of the Freedom to Worship Act, HB 1239 by Rep. Scott Sanford, and other Texas Values Action supported religious freedom legislation, including HJR 72 by Representative Jeff Leach – the House companion to SJR 72. Members of the Texas Values Action team, along with pastors and other concerned Texans, testified in support of the bills at the hearing. Please continue to take action to contact your Texas House member to support and coauthor the Freedom to Worship Act - HB 1239 by Rep. Scott Sanford, HJR 72 by Rep. Leach, and all other religious freedom bills!

Support Legislation to Save Women’s Sports in Texas, Senate Hearing Tomorrow

Women deserve to compete on a level playing field. Allowing males to compete in women’s sports destroys fair competition and women’s athletic opportunities. Unfortunately, a growing trend of allowing biological males to compete in women’s sporting events is being accelerated by the Biden Administration’s unprecedented promotion of transgender ideology. Our team is supporting bills filed in the Texas Legislature, including HB 1458 by Rep. Valoree Swanson and SB 29 by Senator Charles Perry, to protect “fair play” in women’s sports. Women deserve equal opportunities to experience the thrill of victory. Allowing males to compete in girls’ sports disadvantages girls and destroys their athletic opportunities.

SB 29 by Sen. Perry is scheduled for a hearing in the Senate State Affairs committee TOMORROW, Friday March 26 at 9 AM. We invite our supporters to join us in testifying at the Texas Capitol in support of this common-sense legislation! Our team will provide you all the support that you need, including talking points and step-by-step instructions. Please immediately contact us at [email protected] if you are interested or able to attend the hearing to testify.

If you can’t make it to the Texas Capitol, please take action to contact your Texas Legislators to support HB 1458 and SB 29 to save women’s sports in Texas!
