Dear Friend,

Donald Trump is gone, but the far-right justices he lodged on the nation’s
highest court are there for life.

The Supreme Court’s 6–3 majority looks poised to dismantle what’s left of
the Voting Rights Act—unleashing another wave of voter-suppression laws
across the country that could cement a one-party rule for generations to
come.^1

The Democrats have a razor-thin majority in Congress in an electoral
system clearly rigged against people of color and urban areas. They must
use their power to expand the Supreme Court to prevent a permanent
takeover of our democracy by the billionaires and the far-right
extremists.

the chance. Will you chip in?

Even before Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett, the Supreme Court under
John Roberts issued critical decisions to erode our democracy and the
principle of one person, one vote.

Citizens United opened the floodgates of corporate money into our
elections. And Shelby County v. Holder dismantled the part of the Voting
Rights Act that required certain jurisdictions—mostly in the Deep South—to
prove that their laws and legislative districts didn’t discriminate
against people of color.^2

The decisions enabled even more aggressive, partisan gerrymandering,
corporations deciding elections, and voting systems that generally favor
rural, white voters.

Now a majority of justices looks poised to uphold two racist voter
suppression laws in Arizona and nullify what remains of the Voting Rights
Act. If Congress passes a new voter protection law, Trump’s Supreme Court
might find a way to overturn that, too.

The solution is clear: The Constitution allows Congress to determine the
size of the Supreme Court. We must expand the court to 13 and give
President Joe Biden the chance to appoint four justices while Democrats
still have control of Congress.

[ [link removed] ]Our very democracy is at stake. Unless we expand the Supreme Court, we
could have permanent minority rule by the billionaire class. Will you chip
in?

Thanks for standing with us.
