Friend, my heart breaks over the eight people — including 6 Asian-American women — whose lives were taken in last week's violent shooting in Atlanta, Georgia.
Make no mistake: This was a hate crime. Unfortunately, it is one in a growing number of hate crimes against the Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community.
The rise in attacks against the AAPI community is once again devastating proof that racism and white supremacy are alive and well, and that there is a lot of work ahead in the fight to rid violence against communities of color from our nation's legacy.
However, we must remember that when we come together, hate cannot win . It's why I'm asking that we lift up our Asian American community members by supporting Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Atlanta's work to fight for the civil rights of, and against racism directed towards, Asian-Americans in the South and across the country.
Right now, AAAJ-Atlanta is working around the clock to support the victims' families of the Atlanta spa shootings. If you can afford it, will you please chip in $10 or more to support their critical work? [[link removed]]

Our AAPI neighbors and communities need us in the fight to end anti-Asian racism and violence. We will not rest until every community feels safe, protected, and supported in this country. Change rests on the actions we take today.
Thank you in advance for anything you're able to give.
In solidarity,
Barbara Lee
