John, We took it as a compliment when, just a couple days ago, Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the race for AZ-01 one of the most competitive in the nation. We’ve been working hard on our 100% grassroots campaign. We’re on the ground every day, meeting with people in this district, while our opponent sits in D.C., pondering whether or not to support impeachment. Imagine our surprise when our opponent forwarded Pelosi’s message in a fundraising email that said without him, AZ-01 is in danger of falling into the hands of the far-right and special interests. The truth is, he's almost completely bankrolled by special interests, including big finance, insurance, defense, and oil & gas. Individual contributions account for only 5.34% of what’s he’s raised for his 2020 campaign. He only switched parties four years ago when he saw the potential of winning as a Democrat in 2016. The man who claims he’ll protect his constituents from special interests is himself beholden to them. Only when everyday people are elected can we truly free this district and this country from this broken, big-money system. That’s why I refuse any corporate PAC or special interest money.
