Aloha -
A couple of Saturdays ago, I was walking back to my apartment after 26 hours straight on the Senate floor, not having slept for nearly two days, and it hit me. It was a combination of extreme fatigue, relief, and pure joy to know how much help we were going to deliver to people who desperately need it.
And as I fell on my couch, it all came together in my mind. None of this happens without the election. None of this happens without everyone who made phone calls, who tweeted and texted and donated and poured heart and soul into taking our country back.
We had all done what we set out to do. And yet this is only the beginning.
Some people like to look down on politics and politicians, but I love this job, I love Hawaii, and I’m proud of the work that we’ve been able to do together.
Some of you are new to Team Schatz, and so I want to welcome you. Some of you joined our coalition during our efforts to take back the Senate. And some of you have been with me since I was an overconfident but idealistic 26 year old trying to solve all of the world’s problems all at once. Whenever you joined our team, I’m honored that you did, and that we continue to grow our crew.
I am up for re-election next year. I’m running because I’m only just beginning to fight for climate action, for civil rights, for justice, and for a government that helps people to pursue their dreams. And I’m running to make sure Hawaii always gets its fair share.
I’m hoping you will consider making a contribution which will help us to get the word out about who I am, what I’ve done, and what I plan to do if I’m fortunate enough to be given another term by the voters.
