In an effort to elect more Black leaders to impactful positions of power within the criminal justice system, The Collective PAC, in partnership with its 501(c)4 affiliated organization Collective Future, officially launched The Collective’s Justice For All Initiative. This groundbreaking program will focus on recruiting and supporting Black candidates committed to unapologetically pursuing justice and progressive criminal justice reform. The Justice For All Initiative will serve as a key component of The Collective’s work to close the representation gap of Black leaders serving in key positions that make and administer the law. Currently, 95 percent of elected prosecutors in the United States are white, and of that number, less than one percent are women of color.
So far for the 2021-2022 cycle, The Collective PAC has endorsed five Justice for All candidates.
Through the Justice For All Initiative, Collective Future will offer culturally competent training for Black lawmakers and staffers on how to run successful campaigns and prepare for challenges that may arise when pushing for progressive criminal justice reform on the campaign trail and in office. The training will also build out policy resources focused on tracking and formulating effective strategies for policymakers to craft solutions, with a focus on wrongful convictions, trial penalty, mass incarceration, recidivism, and police accountability.

This month, The Collective PAC also endorsed a number of candidates for election and reelection to state and local offices in Virginia, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Ohio, and New York.

The Collective PAC’s Stefanie Brown James hosted a fireside chat with St. Louis Mayoral candidate and current City Treasurer Tishaura Jones, who is poised to become the city’s first Black woman mayor. Tishaura is a champion for working families who has spent her career serving the people of Missouri. She represented the 63rd district in the Missouri House of Representatives before becoming the first Black woman to serve as Treasurer of St. Louis. During her tenure, Tishaura has helped the city earn and save more than $30 million and created the Office of Financial Empowerment, helping more than 16,000 public school students start saving for higher education through the College Kids Program.
This month, The Collective PAC’s National Investment Council (NIC) hosted a virtual reception with Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-7) and Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx (IL). Both Ayanna, Kim, and countless Black women candidates are already facing attacks from the right, so it's crucial we build up the grassroots power needed to defend and support these women who are fighting for our communities every single day.
The NIC is a leadership entity composed of individuals committed to financially supporting The Collective PAC, broadly spreading our message and gaining new partnerships and opportunities for the organization. If you’re interested in learning how you can join this important entity within The Collective, please reach out to Jack Lofgren, National Finance Director, at [email protected], or click here to access the NIC Sign Up page.
