I'm here with some great news: The House passed the American Dream and Promise Act, which would provide a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who came to this country as children.
I'm so happy, John -- I truly believe that our immigrant communities make America a better place for all, and the dignity, humanity, and resilience of those who choose to build their lives here should be honored with citizenship.
This bill accomplishes the goals of the long-awaited DREAM Act -- ensuring that over 2.5 million young people who call our country home will no longer live in fear of being deported to a country they barely remember.
But I know that passing this bill through the Senate will be a challenge. The GOP is using a recent group of unaccompanied minors at the US-Mexico border to call for harsh, unforgiving immigration policies. And as long as they wield the filibuster, we know that any progressive legislation will face an uphill battle.
I can assure you that I won't be backing down from my fight to protect immigrant families and vulnerable Americans -- but I need your support in order to continue this work.
We're nearing an FEC filing deadline in just a few days, and my team is nowhere near where we need to be in order to make a strong financial showing and protect PA-05 in the 2022 election.
