This is part of a larger pattern: Some of you may remember the onslaught
of GOP voter suppression bills that Republicans introduced after 2010:

* Republicans pushed 180 bills in 41 states targeting voting access —
They succeeded
* Democrats lost the House, lost the Senate, and eleven years later we
STILL haven’t recovered the losses at the state and local level
* Donald Trump led a Republican takeover of our government six years
after, winning the Presidency, House, Senate, and packing the courts
(including THE Supreme Court)

Why we’re alarmed: Those numbers are DWARFED by what Republicans are
pushing now:

* Republicans are pushing 253 bills in 45 states targeting voting access
* Our House majority is hanging on by five seats, our Senate majority by
one seat, and election analysts warn Republicans could win both
chambers next year (that doesn’t even take into account GOP
gerrymandering which is underway)
* The scale of the bills cannot be compared: Stacey Abrams and Raphael
Warnock agree that these extreme voter restrictions compare to “Jim
Crow 2.0” and would take us back decades, if not more than a century

Democrats have ONE SHOT to stop this: the For the People Act. And it’s why
Republicans are dumping tens of millions of dollars into smear campaigns
to block this bill’s passage.

This isn’t about protecting our majorities. This is about Republicans
attempting to steal generations’ worth of elections and creating a tier of
second-class American citizens by stripping tens of millions of their
voice in our democracy.
