The U.S. House recently passed what is maybe the most comprehensive democracy reform bill since the 1965 Voting Rights Act, and now it's the Senate's turn.

Just yesterday, experts testified to senators for almost five hours about how much this legislation would transform our democracy and strengthen government of, by, and For the People. 

It would expand voter registration and ballot access; root out dark money, corruption, and foreign interference; ban partisan and racial gerrymandering; and standardize election rules and security across the country.

With redistricting happening later this year, state legislators in North Carolina and many other states filing voter suppression bills, and our democracy under growing assault from enemies both foreign and domestic, we need this bill more than ever!

S1 will weaken polluters’ power and put people back in charge. Among other things, it:

* Creates independent congressional redistricting commissions, and standardizes criteria for drawing maps that prohibits racial and partisan gerrymandering

* Requires automatic voter registration, online voter registration, and same-day voter registration at the polls

* Makes Election Day a federal holiday, and mandates 15 days of early voting

* Requires verifiable paper ballots instead of touch-screen machines

* Protects people from voter roll purges, and restores voting rights to felons who have completed their sentences

* Creates a public campaign financing system, and mandates Super PACs to publicly report all donors

* Requires presidential candidates to publicly disclose ten years of tax returns
