Last week, Democrats in the Massachusetts legislature passed the NextGen Climate Roadmap--a landmark bill to ensure an equitable, just, and livable future for every Bay Stater.
The Democrats’ climate bill is the framework Massachusetts needs to fight climate change, grow the economy, and promote environmental justice all at the same time. It sets ambitious goals to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and make our commonwealth a national leader on climate action.
The science on climate change is clear: we must take bold, decisive action to prevent its most catastrophic effects. But truly tackling the climate crisis means investing green energy jobs and supporting communities already feeling the impacts of pollution.
When Governor Baker tried to weaken the bill, Democrats didn’t back down from our ambitious goals. We rejected the false choice between equitable, economic prosperity and the health of our planet. We can—and must—do both, and the NextGen Climate bill provides solutions that leave no community or worker behind.
