Friend: Thousands of Rohingya people have been displaced after a massive fire in Kutupalong camp, the world’s largest refugee camp, in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh.
Fifteen people have died, 560 have been injured, and more than 45,000 have been displaced, according to initial estimates by the United Nations—but the full impact of the fire is still being determined.
Doctors Without Borders’ Balukhali clinic was destroyed in the blaze. Fortunately, all staff and patients evacuated safely. So far, Doctors Without Borders has treated a few people who were wounded as a result of the fire in Kutupalong hospital and the hospital on the hill.
This is a devastating blow to the Rohingya, who have already endured years of hardship in Bangladesh. This isn’t the first time this has happened in the camp, as deteriorating conditions and flimsy materials have created the perfect environment for fire to spread rapidly.
