Dear John PFLAGers across the country like you spoke out in support of the eminently qualified Dr. Rachel Levine to confirm her as Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) - and today, she made history! Moments ago, the U.S. Senate, in a bipartisan vote of 52 to 48, confirmed Dr. Levine, who will now be the first openly transgender person appointed to a Senate-confirmed position within any administration; her confirmation makes Dr. Levine the highest-ranking official who is transgender in the U.S. government. We are grateful to the Biden-Harris Administration for nominating Dr. Levine to serve. Dr. Levine’s nomination and confirmation is a signal of support and commitment to transgender Americans: People are policy.
